I've been on vacation half the week, so I'm late to the party, but it's Going Local Week 2009!
I kicked it off Sunday morning with a breakfast sandwich including eggs from a friends' farm and tomatoes from my backyard.
Over the weekend, I visited the Carmel cupcake shop Holy Cow Cupcakes that uses all local fruits in her cupcakes, as well as organic butter & milk.
Last night's dinner, though, was the Best Thing Ever: a Caprese salad with tomatoes & basil from my backyard, and homemade mozzarella cheese. This is what I've waited all summer for, seriously. I bought the cheese-making supplies in anticipation of it in early May.
What local foods have you enjoyed this week?

How did you make the cheese? I've seen mozzarella made before, but I don't know how you do it. AND I use a ball of fresh mozzarella a week.
Alisse - You married the son of dairy farmers! You'd think he'd know. :) And, if they were STILL dairy farmers, I'd figure out how to get some raw milk out of them, to make more cheese.
I'll post on it today, hopefully, because you're not the first to ask :)
I'm the first to ask--and I'm still waiting!! :) JK, maybe I wasn't the first to ask--but I really want to know...
